Compare the size of countries

Pick any two countries and drag one over the other. Both are drawn at true size, so you can see which is bigger and by how much.

Size Compare

Australia is 82% the size of the United States.

The United States is 1.2 times as big as Australia.

Both outlines use an equal-area projection centred on each country, so their sizes compare correctly. Areas are total area, land and inland water.

The US outline shows Alaska and Hawaii below the other 48 states, at the same scale.
